Geography
At Rudheath Primary Academy, Geography intends to promote children’s curiosity about the world and develop their knowledge of places and people. Through the Geography curriculum, our children investigate a range of places and their geographical features starting with exploring our local area, then expanding their knowledge to the UK and looking beyond to contrasting localities globally. Children make connections between their surroundings and that of contrasting settlements, supporting their ability to ask questions and develop their knowledge of Human Geography. Physical Geography helps children understand the processes that take place across the world and in the UK. As environmental challenges arise, it is important to teach children about the impact human processes can have in their own community but also throughout the wider world. There is a growing importance to look after our environment and it is essential that we provide the future generation with the knowledge and passion to look after our planet, both in their lives and future job roles. Our curriculum aims to provide children with the opportunity to build their confidence in using geographical skills and knowledge, that can be used in their everyday lives, whether that is reading a map or planning a route to somewhere new, as well as in future job roles such as town planning or flood management.
